Heads 40–90+. Phyllaries ± 8, 4–6 mm. Ray-florets ± 5; corolla laminae 5–7 mm. Disc-florets 10–20.
Phenology: Flowering summer.
Habitat: Open stream banks and meadows in coniferous woodlands and sagebrush-conifer associations
Elevation: 1000–3000 m

Discussion
Variety serra occurs from the Sierra Nevada of California northward and eastward to Montana, northern Wyoming, and the Uinta and Wasatch mountains of Utah.
