Plants 15–30 cm. Stems villous or tomentose, ± woolly, sparsely glandular-stipitate. Leaves: basal blades lanceolate, 50–100 (–150) × 8–15 (–40) mm, margins coarsely serrate, faces softly villous, tomentose, stipitate-glandular. Heads 1–4. Involucres 8–10 × 12–15 mm. Phyllaries appressed, unequal, bases chartaceous, apices green.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Aug.
Habitat: Dry meadows, pine forests, brushy slopes
Elevation: 1600–2200 m

Discussion

Variety lanulosa is recognized by its woolly pubescence and unequal phyllaries.
