Stems puberulent and glandular-puberulent to glabrate. Leaves 5–7-lobed. Spikes 5–12-flowered, 25–40 mm; bracts 4–10. Pedicels: bracteoles 20–25 mm, margins pinnately lobed, lobes 5–7. Flowers: corolla pale-yellow with purple markings, 20–30 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Aug–Sep.
Habitat: Rocky openings, pine-juniper woodlands.
Elevation: 1900–2000 m.
Discussion
Subspecies kaibabensis is known from the Kaibab Plateau. Chuang and Heckard suggested that it may be derived from a past hybridization of subsp. tenuifolius and Cordylanthus kingii subsp. kingii.
