Shrubs, usually 6–25 dm, often forming rhizomatous thickets. Stems erect to decumbent. Leaves: petiole 0.5–3 mm; blade width less than 1/2 length. Pedicels 3–11 mm. Flowers 7–10.5 (–11.2) mm; outer sepals (at least distally) and wings dark-pink in bud, occasionally lighter, apex of upper sepal rounded or obtuse, occasionally acute; wings abaxially glabrous or puberulent near apex. 2n = 18.


Phenology: Flowering (early spring–)spring–late summer.
Habitat: Shaded canyons to open rocky slopes in chaparral or oak woodlands.
Elevation: 100–1300 m.

Distribution

Calif., Mexico (Baja California)

Discussion

In the flora area, var. fishiae occurs in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
