Shrubs or trees to 10 m; trunk smooth, often appearing somewhat twisted; bark grayish or bright orangish brown, often with lighter spots; young twigs puberulent to villous. Leaves: blade elliptic to suborbiculate, 1–4.5 ×0.5–3.5 cm, base cuneate to rounded, apex apiculate to abruptly acuminate. Peduncles 5–30 mm. Flowers: calyx open, lobes persistent, 2–3 (–4) mm; petals 3–5 mm. Berries to ca. 10 mm. Seeds 3–6 mm.
Phenology: Flowering mainly late summer; fruiting fall.
Habitat: Disturbed areas.
Elevation: 0–20 m.

Introduced; Calif., South America (sw Argentina), South America (s Chile)
