Annuals. Leaf-blades 20–60 (–90) × 5–20+ mm. Involucres 8–12+ × 6–9+ mm, larger in fruit. Phyllaries proximally navicular, each enfolding its subtended floret, usually bristly and/or tomentulose abaxially. Cypselae (outer often arcuate) 2.5–3 mm; pappi 1–1.5 (outer cypselae) or 5–6 mm (inner cypselae). 2n = 10.

Habitat: Disturbed sites
Elevation: 100–200 m

Discussion
The single report of Picris rhagadioloides for the flora area (as P. sprengerana from St. Louis; G. Yatskievych, pers. comm.) was confirmed for this study. Picris sprengerana (Linnaeus) Poiret has been misapplied to plants here called P. rhagadioloides (see W. Greuter 2003).
