Basal leaves 1 (–3) -nerved, linear, 1–5 mm. Heads 10–30 in racemiform to paniculiform arrays. Involucres: staminate 3.5–4 mm; pistillate 3.5–4.5 mm. Phyllaries proximally green, distally white. Corollas: staminate 2.5–3.2 mm; pistillate 2–2.5 mm. Cypselae 1–1.5 mm, sparingly papillate-strigose; pappi: staminate 3–3.5 mm; pistillate 2.5–3 mm.
Phenology: Flowering summer.
Habitat: Moist, open, meadows and drainages, lower montane, ponderosa pine zone
Elevation: 1000–2200 m

Discussion
Subspecies aberrans is characterized by its non-stoloniferous habit and relatively small heads in racemiform to paniculiform arrays.
