Plants stoloniferous. Cauline leaves 25–110 × 3–17 mm. Peduncles filiform; bracts subulate, 4–26 mm. Phyllaries subulate; outer 0.8–1.7 × 0.3–0.6 mm; inner 1.8–2.3 × 0.2–0.7. 2n = 18.
Phenology: Flowering Jul–Nov.
Habitat: Prairies, waste places, roadside ditches, woodland borders, sunny to semishaded, dry to wet
Elevation: 10–200 m
