Stems usually glabrous, rarely sparsely hirtellous. Leaves (and phyllaries) not or weakly glanddotted. Involucres 11–15 × 4–7 mm. Phyllaries: inner (9–) 10–13 × 2.5–3.8 mm, apices acute (without mucros or apicula). Cypselae 3–4.5 mm. 2n = 20.
Phenology: Flowering Aug–Oct.
Habitat: Pine flatwoods, longleaf pine-turkey oak, scrub oak, sandy peat, sand, ridges, fields, moist swales
Elevation: 0–20 m
