Plants 30–120 cm. Stems villoso-hirsute to hirsute, eglandular. Leaves: basal and proximal cauline oblanceolate, mostly 6–20 cm; cauline gradually reduced, faces glanddotted. Heads in flat-topped, corymbiform arrays. Peduncles hirsute, eglandular. Involucres (6–) 7–10 mm. Phyllaries 15–40+ in 3–5+ series, broadly elliptic, glabrous and eglandular (margins hyaline-scarious, erose or ciliate), apices rounded. Receptacles paleate (at least peripherally). Corollas eglandular, lobes ca. 1 mm. Cypselae eglandular; pappus bristles in ± 1 series. 2n = 20.

Habitat: Sand ridges, roadsides, flats, dry, pine and longleaf pine-turkey oak woods, pine-palmetto, palmetto flats
