Plants 6 cm. Stems with flagelliform branches absent; pseudoparaphyllia absent or few. Stem and branch leaves 0.6–1.9 × 0.4–1 mm; alar cells quadrate to oblong; distal medial laminal cells irregularly long-rhomboidal, 23–42 × 5–9 µm; apical cells irregularly rhomboidal, walls pitted. Perichaetial inner leaves with base sheathing, margins entire, apex acute, costa single. Capsule erect. Calyptra smooth. Spores globose, ovoid, or ellipsoid.


Habitat: Trunks of Ulmus
Elevation: moderate elevations

Discussion

Neomacounia nitida was collected originally from trunks of elm trees; the species is listed as endangered and may be extinct.
