Plants annual, monoecious. Leaves with normal (non-kranz) anatomy. Staminate flowers with perianth segments often crested. Pistillate flowers with a 3–4-lobed perianth. Bracteoles ovate, united to middle or beyond, faces lacking tubercles. Seeds: radicle superior or lateral.
