Flowers actinomorphic; sepals suberect to spreading [erect], lateral pair not saccate basally; petals white, pink, or purple [yellow], claw present, distinct; filaments unappendaged, not winged; pollen 3-colpate. Fruits silicles or siliques, dehiscent, unsegmented, 4-angled, angustiseptate, terete, or subterete [latiseptate]; ovules 4–30 [–numerous] per ovary; style distinct [obsolete]; stigma entire [rarely slightly 2-lobed]. Seeds uniseriate [biseriate]; cotyledons accumbent or incumbent.
