Leaflets: blade linear to ovate, margins entire or shallowly to deeply lobed. Flowers cup or bell-shaped; sepals narrowly lanceolate-ovate, 4–7 mm; petals white (sometimes aging or drying pale-yellow basally, veins white or purplish), cuneate, 7–13 mm; filaments 4–6 mm; anthers cream to yellow, oblong-sagittate, 1 mm. Tubercles absent or not (or 1 row of whitish globules on ridges and crests), brown, lamellar, planar, or conical. 2n = 10.
Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jun.
Habitat: Wet meadows, edges of vernal pools, ephemeral streams
Elevation: 0-1000 m
Discussion
Subspecies nivea occurs in the Coast Ranges from San Luis Obispo County to Humboldt County, with disjunct populations in Butte County.
