Lianas, climbing by tendrils, synoecious. Branches: bark adherent; pith white, continuous through nodes; tendrils 2-branched, without adhesive discs. Leaves simple or palmately compound. Inflorescences usually bisexual, leaf-opposed, corymblike cymes, sometimes compound. Flowers bisexual; calyx saucer-shaped, indistinctly undulate; petals 5, distinct; nectary adnate proximally to base of ovary, free distally, cupshaped, slightly lobed; stamens 5; style cylindric, elongate. Berries rose violet, purple, blue, black, orange, or yellow. Seeds 1–4 per fruit. x = 10.
