Plants 30–100 cm. Leaves crowded, green; blades 1–3-nerved, oblanceolate, 45–70 × 5–14 mm, faces glabrous or puberulent, gland-dotted; distalmost shorter than arrays. Heads 10+ in cymiform arrays. Involucres 12–14 mm. Phyllaries 11–15, chartaceous, apices erect or ± recurved, attenuate (mostly glabrous). Florets 5–7; corollas ca. 10 mm, tubes mostly glabrous, throats ± abruptly dilated, lobes about 2.5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering late summer–fall.
Habitat: Open pine and fir forests
Elevation: 700–1900 m
