Leaf-blades spatulate to obovate, 2–5 cm, 3–5-lobed, lobes ± oblong. Heads (3–) 4–7 (–10) per array. Peduncles 0–2.5 (–9) cm. Involucres 5–7 mm diam. Phyllaries 5–7 (–8), ovate, apices obtuse or acute. Ray-florets 0 or 4–6; laminae 4–5 mm. Disc-florets 35–75; corollas 3.5–4 mm. Cypselae 2–3.5 mm; pappi 0.5–1.3 mm. 2n = 64.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Dry sites, oak woodlands
Elevation: 300–1000 m

Discussion

Of conservation concern.

Variety tanacetiflorum is known only from the central Sierra Nevada foothills. At least one population is sympatric with Eriophyllum lanatum and E. confertiflorum var. confertiflorum. It may deserve specific recognition.
