Stems basally ascending, distally erect, 30–70 (–90) cm, strigose in proximal 1/2, sparsely strigose or glabrous distally. Leaves: proximal and mid margins eciliate, faces strigose. Involucres 4.5–5.5 mm. 2n = 18.
Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep(–Oct).
Habitat: Dry, rocky or sandy sites, chaparral to oak, pine, or pine-fir woods
Elevation: (100–)1000–1900(–2300) m
