Plants canescent. Flowers: caly× 5.5–9 mm, lobes lanceolate, ape× acute to acuminate; pollen-sacs 1.1–1.5 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jun.
Habitat: Juniper-pinyon woodlands, Joshua-tree scrub.
Elevation: 400–1800 m.

Ariz., Calif., Nev., Mexico (Baja California)
Discussion
In the flora area, var. microphylla is found mainly in the interior Peninsular Ranges and the Desert Province of southern California.
