Flowering-stems erect, (15–) 25–60 cm. Leaves of basal stems mostly 2-ranked; blade lanceolate. Inner sepals broadly ovate, apex obtuse. Capsules depressed-globose, ± equaling calyx.
Phenology: Flowering summer; fruiting late summer–fall.
Habitat: Dry open woodlands and sand plains, burned areas and rock outcrops
Elevation: 10–1500 m
