Variety vernalensis is known from the Green River Basin in extreme northwestern Colorado (Moffat and Rio Blanco counties) and northeastern Utah (Daggett and Uintah counties). The herbage of var. vernalensis usually is glabrous; some populations from Browns Park in Daggett and Moffat counties have scabrous leaves, bracts, and calyces.
