Leaves: petiole glabrate or sparsely hairy, hairs gray to white; blade dull adaxially, 52–97 mm, abaxial surface densely to sparsely villous, hairs white to gray.

Habitat: Upland and floodplain forests, prairie margins
Elevation: 300-1300 m

Discussion

Subspecies oblongifolium generally occurs in the mid-continent region and is characterized by white to gray indument on the abaxial leaf surfaces. Hair color varies from gray to white among some specimens from Texas and northern Mexico.
