Plants 4.5–13.6 cm. Leaves: basal orbiculate to broadly elliptic, bases attenuated to winged petioles, margins distinctly crenate; cauline 2–7, 20–60 × 8–12 mm. Phyllaries: shortest 2.1–3.1 mm. Disc-florets: corollas 4.2–5.4 mm. 2n = 18.


Phenology: Flowering Jul–Aug.
Habitat: Gravelly soils, alpine meadows, gravel slopes
Elevation: 2000–3000+ m

Discussion

Variety nana is mainly confined to peaks of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington, and very rarely on central Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
