Distinguished from other subgenera by the combination of seasonal leaves, short-creeping to suberect stems hidden by old petiole bases, persistently scaly petioles, pinnate-pinnatifid blades with greatly reduced proximal pinnae, and veins meeting margin above the sinuses. x = 34.
Discussion
Thelypteris quelpaertensis, T. limbosperma (Allioni) H. P. Fuchs from Europe, and T. elwesii (Baker) Ching from Asia constitute the genus Oreopteris Holub (R. E. Holttum 1981).
