Leaves: blade broadly elliptic to suborbiculate, 3–5 cm, base broadly cuneate, lobe sinuses ± shallow to ± deep, apex obtuse to subacute. Flowers 12–17 mm diam. Pomes broadly ellipsoid to suborbicular.


Phenology: Flowering Apr–May; fruiting Sep–Oct.
Habitat: Hedgerows, thickets, wood margins, dry areas
Elevation: 100–300 m

Discussion

Variety margarettae is the most common variety, occurring nearly throughout the range of the species. It has an uncommon form with distinctly pubescent inflorescences.
