Plants erect, 15–60 dm. Leaf-blades 15–100 × 10–70 mm, base notably cordate. Pedicels 5–15 mm. Flowers 45–85 mm diam. (pressed); sepals usually orange, lobes sometimes reddish at bases and along veins, gland/pit borders rarely setose. Seeds rarely carunculate, usually glabrous.
Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jul.
Habitat: Canyon slopes, chaparral
Elevation: 100–700 m

Calif., Mexico (Baja California)
