Internodes 0.5–1 (–2.5) mm. Leaf-blades 0.5–1.5 (–2) mm wide, length usually 2.5–3.5 times width.
Phenology: Flowering Jul–Sep(–Oct).
Habitat: Rocky slopes, canyons, sandhills, desert washes.
Elevation: 500–1700 m.

Ariz., Mexico (Sonora)
Discussion
Variety kearneyana is widespread in the southern third of Arizona.
