Leaf-blades 3-lobed, 2–2.5 cm wide. Flowers: hypanthium 6–12 mm, 2–3 times as long as sepals; sepals 3–4 mm; petals yellow, turning deep red.
Phenology: Flowering Feb–Apr.
Habitat: Alluvial areas, foothill woodlands, forest edges
Elevation: 100-1000 m
Discussion
Variety gracillimum occurs in the Central Valley and Coast Ranges.
