Herbs, not rhizomatous, not stoloniferous; caudex slender, scaly. Flowering-stems erect, leafy, 10–35 cm, stipitate-glandular. Leaves in basal rosette and cauline, cauline leaves 2–3, smaller distally; stipules present; petiole sparsely to densely stipitate-glandular; blade orbiculate to broadly reniform, 5–9-lobed, sinuses relatively shallow, base cordate, ultimate margins crenate, apex obtuse, surfaces stipitate-glandular; venation palmate. Inflorescences spikelike racemes, from axillary buds in rosette, 10–28-flowered, bracteate. Flowers: hypanthium adnate to proximal 1/4 of ovary, free from ovary 2.5–4 mm, green, white, or cream; sepals 5, greenish yellow; petals 5, white or cream; nectary tissue not seen; stamens 5, (opposite sepals); filaments subulate; ovary 1/4 inferior, 1-locular, ovaries completely connate; placentation parietal; styles 2; stigmas 2. Capsules 2-beaked. Seeds dark-brown, ellipsoid, minutely papillate. x = 7.
